All Clear for the New Year

WVU employees are encouraged to take advantage of the confidential document shred and recycling collection servicebeing offered in conjunction with the release of WVU's Record Retention Policy & Schedule. This special collection service between January 5th to February 9th is free to WVU departments. In addition, if your department has an established on-going shred container service with PACE, any material collected in these specific containers will also be free from January 5th to February 9th. Here’s how it works:

Step 1. Box it up

Confidential documents must be boxed separately from general paper and books. Please write the word ‘SHRED’ on each box of confidential documents. Click here for a full list or items that can and cannot be shredded. Staples, metal clips, binding clips, folders, 3-ring binders, and metal hanging file folders do not need to be removed.

General paper, magazines, brochures, hard cover and paperback books must be boxed together. Please write the word ‘RECYCLE’ on each box of these mixed general paper items. Staples, metal clips, binding clips, folders, 3-ring binders, and metal hanging file folders do not need to be removed.

Correct packaging of documents-box closed and clearly labeled Incorrect packaging of documents- box open, not labeled, and broken

All requests submitted before midnight on Wednesdays will be scheduled for that same Friday.

Pick-up dates for this special service will occur on January 19th, 26th, February 2nd, and 9th between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, pick-ups will be re-scheduled for the following Friday.

All confidential documents will be shredded for free and recycled through PACE. PACE Shredding is AAA Certified by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID). AAA Certification addresses concerns regarding proper handling and destruction of FERPA and HIPAA protected documents and information storage systems.
