Reduce Waste
- The WVU system has reduced printouts from 35 million in FY2019 to just over 13 million in FY2025.
- The new managed print contract implemented in 2024 has reduced the number of energy-using machines and reduced printing by providing conveniences such as default double-sided printing and swipe-to-print controls.
Protect Land and Water
- In FY2010, chemical use was reduced from over 100 types to under 20.
- All of WVU's paper towels and toilet paper are third-party sustainability certified because they use recycled content.
- WVU's can liners for trash and recycling contain between 30% - 70% post-consumer recycled content.
Lower Emissions
- Reduced 4.2 metric tons of carbon dioxide and saved over $20K by replacing 30 HVAC units on 7 buildings in FY2025.
- Replaced and upgraded all interior and exterior lighting to LED fixtures in FY2025. LED lighting uses about 75% less electricity than older technologies like incandescent.
- WVU Tech has reduced its fleet since FY2019, including reducing 8 leased vehicles used for Athletics transportation. The current fleet is 34 owned vehicles and 7 leased.
- The WVU system has reduced over 100 vehicles since FY2019, and processes are being put in place to track reductions by campus.
- Proposed bike and pedestrian improvements through South Kanawha Street.
- WVU Hospitality at WVU Tech is sourcing food locally through Crook Brothers. This includes fresh, seasonal produce from Gritt's Farm - West Virginia-grown apples and dairy products.
