WVU's recycling efforts include systems to recover day-to-day waste from those living, working, and learning on campus, focus on specialized needs from operations, and to ultimately reduce waste generated on campus. In addition to daily operations, WVU also holds annual programs and events that include the surrounding community.
Student Move-in Cardboard Recycling
Mountaineers Recycle
An average of 14 tons of single stream recycling is recycled during home football games. WVU Athletics' recycling program provides bins and bags at football and basketball games to show fans across the country that real Mountaineers recycle.
Hard Cover Book Recycling
An average of seven tons of hard cover books are recycled each year from campus. Twice a year WVU hosts a book recycling program to encourage faculty and staff to purge unwanted books and journals collecting dust from offices and storage spaces across campus.
Ecycling Days
An average of one ton of electronics are recycled when WVU periodically hosts FREE electronics recycling days for the WVU community. Personal electronics can be dropped off to ensure they do not end up in landfills.
Blue and Gold Mine Sale
An average of 25 tons of gently used items are diverted from landfill each year from the Blue & Gold Mine Sale. This sale is an annual student move-out event where students and community members donate good, usable items to sell to the public at large. Visit the sale for great bargains on wonderful treasures! All proceeds are donated to the local United Way as part of WVU’s annual campaign.
